Speechless

At the foot of the steps a forest 
strewn with breadcrumb fingers 
sticky with loss
stuffed with seductive chaotic songs
like a goose bound for the oven
giddy trees wait  shaken.

In the wild arms of a twilit birch
the void of course moon 
hangs like a spotlit breast.

Death
folds the corners of my mouth
into a heart-shaped star
sits on my tongue like a stone 
around which your name blossoms 
distorted.
